Because FileLocker works completely offline with no servers involved, there is no password recovery option. This is a security feature, not a limitation — a recovery system would mean someone else could potentially access your files. Save the password in your password manager before clicking Lock. The optional hint feature also helps your client remember without giving away the password.

The desktop application for locking files runs on Windows 10 and 11. Your clients can unlock files on Windows, Mac, or Linux — any computer with a modern browser. macOS sender support is on the roadmap.
Share it separately from the file — call them, text them, or tell them in person. Never write the password on the USB drive or include it in the same email as the locked file. Keeping the key separate from the lock is what makes this genuinely secure.

FileLocker uses AES-256-GCM — the same standard used by the US government for classified information. Your password is processed using Argon2id before being used as the encryption key, making automated guessing attacks computationally infeasible.
Yes. FileLocker works entirely offline. No internet connection is required to lock a file. No internet connection is required for your client to unlock a file. The entire workflow happens on the physical devices involved.

If you email the locked file, only someone with the correct password can open it. Even if the email is forwarded to the wrong person, or intercepted in transit, the locked file cannot be read without the exact password.
